Referral Page (Webpage Redirect)

Amber Liggett Updated by Amber Liggett

The Webpage Redirect option gives you the most control over what Referrals see when they click on Members' share links and social media posts. It is also the most flexible option when integrating with your business. You can send Referrals straight to your personal or business site, e-commerce site, or an external quote or contact form. In this article you will learn to:

  • Setup your Redirect URL
  • Setup your conversion settings

Setting Up a Redirect URL

  1. Navigate to Program Editor > Share or click here
  2. Under Referral Destination, select Change Destination
  3. Make sure the Webpage Redirect option is selected and enter the URL to the page where your referral capture form is hosted.
  4. Referral data is captured on your site and sent back to Referral Rock using our JavaScript integration scripts (This requires a separate integration)
Member share links will always contain the Member's referral code. This allows Referral Rock to know exactly who made the Referral and ensures that the correct Member receives their reward.

Adding URL Parameters

If you are redirecting to an external quote or contact form, adding URL parameters like {NAME} and {EMAIL} can capture identifying information about the user clicking the link and autocomplete the form on your page.  When adding parameters, they will be added automatically get added onto the Redirect URL.

For more information on URL tokens and adding URL parameters to your program links, read our article on Website Integrations.

Set Up Conversion Tracking

Placing the conversion script on the Thank You, Order Summary or Form Completion page will capture Referral information and send it back to Referral Rock. For more information on setting up your integration scripts, read our Integration Scripts article.

Conversion Settings

Conversion settings include the options to automatically approve Referrals and specify when cookies expire.

These settings are setup with recommended defaults. To make changes:

  1. Navigate to the Promote page of the Program Editor (or click here)
  2. Select the gear icon next to Conversion Tracking.
  3. Select Conversion Settings
  • Automatically Approve Referrals?: If automatically approve Referrals is set to 'yes', the Referral will be approved once the conversion tracking event occurs. If 'no' is selected, the Referral must be manually approved.
  • Cookie Expire: The cookie expires option lets you specify how long a cookie will live in the user's browser after they click the Referral link. This cookie is placed in the user's browser and links them to the referring Member for the period of time specified. That way, if the user visits your site via the Referral link but comes back to make a purchase at a later time, that Referral will still be captured and associated with the Member that last made the referral.
  • Tracking with First Interaction Attribution - Determines which member will receive credit for a referral if the referral clicks on multiple member's referral links, and therefore multiple Referral Rock cookies exist.
    • Last Smart Interaction (Recommended) - Credit for the referral goes to the last member whose link was clicked by the referral.
    • First Interaction - Credit for the referral goes to the first member whose link was clicked by the referral.
    • Last Interaction - Cookies are always replaced on a new referral link click, regardless of whether the referral clicks the same member's link more than once. This reduces tracking accuracy and fraud detection but can be useful if multiple members and referrals are expected to share the same device, as each referral link click on the same device will be tracked as a different user.
